Four years ago, Yahví and I were engaged on this day. We rushed downstairs to share the news with my brother Jon and my Mama Grace and called our family and close friends to share the news. Later that evening we taught a class together at the Old Town School of Folk Music. One of our students happily shouted “They’re engaged!” to each person that walked in the room.
I’ll never forget the year before. Yahví had sent me two dozen roses to the Old Town School. Why two dozen? One was for me and one was to share because he knew I wouldn’t be able to to receive the flowers without sharing them with my friends. That made me feel so good, to know he knew me so well and supported me in my sharing 🙂
This day is sort of New Year’s for me. A reminder to live lovingly every day of the year. To treat others with kindness and to see the humanity in each pair of eyes I have the honor to share a moment with. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it.
Feliz Día del Amor y La Amistad!
