We spent the day in Riverside yesterday……
Above is a picture of the house I grew up in from the time I was three. My grandmother and then my mom took care of elderly woman in our home. I always say that I grew up with a lot of grandmas 🙂 My brother Jon lived here and helped my mom take care of the ladies for many years. I spent some summers helping my too, cooking, doing dishes, caring for the ladies etc. I think it gave me an appreciation for people of all ages.
My mom always says the ladies had a good quality of life because they were living with a family. There were children playing and laughing and lot of music from me and my friends.
It was good to go home. The day was a little heavy because of all that has happened with my family in the last year, but it was good. I was able to talk to some of the neighbors and let them know about my brother. I’m so lucky to have such a wonderful husband to be with me through all of the ups and downs and joys and sorrows of life.
Below is one of our dear friends Jon Hardt. He has known my mom since she was in nurses training and I met him when we moved to Riverside (I was 3 years old)
Jon is wonderful man who is like an Uncle to me. We visited him at his home in Loma Linda, ate at the local diner and had a tour around Loma Linda. I hadn’t been there in like 15 years!
After visiting Jon, we went to D’Elia’s Grinders. We met my brother’s friend Rose and were able to visit with her for a few minutes. My cousin Kristy (Uncle Mike’s daughter) joined us, she’s really been like a sister to me my whole life. Meghan, Donna and Wyatt joined us, too! D’Elia’s is a tradtion in our family. D’Elia’s was around before Subway or Togo’s or anything. Uncle Mike used to pick up the grinders and bring them over to grandma’s house to our delight! I was really glad to share the grinders with Yahvi.
In the evening Kristy, Meghan, Yahvi and I joined Katy and Alane at the Mission Inn for margaritas. I had seen Katy and Alane in years! It was so good to catch up. It’s funny because so much changes, but with good friends, you can pick up right where you left off. Good frienships stay strong no matter how much time goes by.
